Emerson is expressing the concept of trusting yourself. Not always following in the footsteps of others but being your own person. He is stating how to be genuinely happy you must believe in your own thoughts without worrying about the perception of others. Sometimes you have to put yourself before anyone else, because that is what is best for you. Believing and acting on your own instincts will prove to be the way to ultimate happiness. Although sometimes this could seem more difficult, it will conclude in a better result. The judgement of others can often have impact on what we do but Emerson reminds us to focus on what we believe, always.
When choosing universities there are many pressures and influences on ones decision. For example, many of my friends want to go to Langara, but I don't believe that it is the right school for me and my skills. I am going to trust what I believe and choose that school that fits me not letting my friends paths impact what I genuinely believe is right. Even though i may not be in the same school as them, it is a big choice I must make for myself and my future.
In conclusion, Emerson is reminding us about the importance of believing in yourself and acting on what you feel is right because in the end that is what will bring you to happiness, your choices not the ones of others.
You seem to have a solid grasp of what the quote is saying. When you refer to the quote try and mention the specific part of the quote that you are refering to. this will help you not be so general. Ilike how you have brought in an example to solidify what you are trying to say. This helps ground your work. good work.
